Background
La Livinière : is a peaceful village with a population of 500 whose history goes back for a thousand years. The vineyard was planted before the Romans occupied the area. They then created the "La Cella Vinaria" wine cellar which is mentioned in some decrees by the senate in Rome in the 2nd century. The senate was upset by the competition these wines were giving certain Roman wines. The church, dating back to the the 12th century, still has its bell tower which itself dates back to the 10th century. This is very unusual in this region because it is a copy of a bell tower in Jerusalem and is a souvenir of crusades to the holy land.
Thanks to a few of its successive managers who focused on improving quality it became one of the first wine cellars to define and set the boundaries for its various regions. It's an installation where the preservation of grape varieties specifically suited for these areas was either recommended or financed by the wine cellar and the selection of regions is therefore pre-determined and reproduced for each vintage.

Saint Germain Winery
It is located in the community La Liviniere and belongs to Mr. Pourthie and his son Roger Pourthie who is the current president of the La Liviniere wine cellar.
The Saint Germain winery is located on slopes covered with pine forest where plots of vines alternate with pine trees.
It gets its name from a very pretty Roman chapel dating back to the 13th century which has been restored, and there is a pilgrimmage each year during May for the feast of Saint Germain along with a county fair in honor of the Patron Saint of the little chapel.
