La Livinière

Soil

Located on the Hauts Coteaux dun Minervois (upper slopes of the Minervois region), the La Liviniere region is nestled in the foothills of the Montagne Noire at the southern tip of the Massif Central mountain range. It is made up of steep slopes on which are mainly planted old Carignan and Grenache Noir and certain types of Syrah.
The soil is rocky and calcareous with shards that are part of the Petit Causse region. The Petit Causse is specifically considered part of the "La Liviniere" region, recognized by INAO (the French national institute for controlled appellations), and has given birth to the AOC Minervois-La Liviniere appellation.

Another part of the region is made up of rocky plateaux where mainly Syrah and Merlot are planted which require cooler soil, along with Grenache Noir. The dryness of the soil, the hot climate and the dry and rocky land are perfect for the vines. It's creation dates back to 200 B.C.
