Le Cellier Lauran Cabaret à Laure-Minervois

Production and Soil

The Lauran Cabaret Wine Cellar is a partnership of 350 grape-growers who together cultivate approximately 1,600 hectares of vines. It is the result of the fusion of two wine cellars: Laure- Minervois and Villeneuve-Minervois. Although they are only 5km away from one another their soil is very distinct. Villeneuve is 183 meters above sea level, at the foot of the Montagne Noire, and has a vineyard terraced over gray schist and black earth called Carcassonne molasses. The hills are soft sandstone resulting from the deterioration of mountain matter. This dark soil retains the heat stored during the day very well.

The climate is cooler and more humid and there are frequent summer storms. The Laure Region is dryer, is only 90 meters above sea level and is made up of 3 very distinct zones :

- Carignan, Syrah & Grenache Noir grape varieties are planted on the calcareous and dry slopes of the AOC zone.

- Oceanic grape varieties like Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cot are planted in the deep soil of the plain, ...

- The third zone, which also produces regional wine, has calcareous and dry slopes with lower banks where a new grape variety called Caladoc has been planted that is well-suited to the region.
